How the planner works
There is no clever layer here, and nothing is guessed. You describe the job; the planner matches a few words against a hand-written list and sends you to the calculator that fits. That calculator asks its own questions — usually no more than two — and works the answer out exactly as it does on its own page.
When you add a calculation, the planner takes the shopping list the calculator returned and merges it with the ones you added before. Materials with a real quantity are added up together; anything the calculator returned as an estimate, as needed, or as optional goes into a separate list of things to consider. Nothing is added that a calculator did not return, and no tool, fixing or accessory is ever invented.
Your project lives in your browser's local storage and never leaves it. There is no account, no server and no request to anywhere.
Project planner FAQs
What does the project planner do?
It takes a short description of your job and points it at the right calculator on the site, asks for the one or two measurements that calculator needs, and runs it. When you add a result, the materials from every calculation you have added are gathered into a single project shopping list. It is a way of joining the calculators up, not a new calculator.
Does the planner work the quantities out itself?
No, and it never will. Every figure comes from the calculator it routed you to, so the answer is the same as on that calculator's own page. The planner only chooses the calculator, collects the measurements and gathers what comes back. If a number is wrong, it is wrong in the calculator's own arithmetic, not in the planner.
Do I need an account, and is my project saved anywhere?
No account, and nothing is saved on a server. Your project is held in your own browser's local storage, on your device, so it survives a refresh or a return visit on the same browser. Clearing your browser data, or using another device, will lose it. No part of your project is ever sent anywhere.
What if the planner picks the wrong calculator?
Pick from the list instead. The keyword matching is a suggestion, not a decision: if you describe your job and it points at the wrong tool, choose the calculator yourself from the full list of nineteen. Nothing is calculated until you have seen the questions the calculator is asking for.
Why are some items listed as things to consider rather than as a quantity?
Because the calculators do not give those a number. Items such as jointing sand, spacers, plasticiser or a spare roll are returned as estimates, as needed, or as optional, so they are separated out rather than mixed in with the measured materials. Nothing is added to the list that a calculator did not return.
